Live-blogging the PawSox playing at Fenway – the final game of the 2008 regular season.

What comes up when I type in "Pawtucket Red Sox" into Yahoo Images!

What comes up when I type "Pawtucket Red Sox" in Yahoo Images. 😀

The text I just got from KellyO tells me that we’re going to see more of the PawSox dudes than the 25-man roster guys tonight…so we’re just going to roll with it.  It’s raining in my town but I haven’t heard what it’s doing in Boston just yet.  Which means that, for now, we’re going under the assumption this game starts at 7:35pm.

7:33pm – KellyO texts me that there are about 6000 people in Fenway Park right now – and no rain.  I look at my foot, which isn’t throbbing any more but is still sore, and wonder if I would have gone in had I not messed up this morning.

7:35pm – Wake is on the mound.  He’s 10-11 this season, so a win tonight will, at least, let him hit .500.

7:37pm – Wake hits the first batter (although the replay shows that he didn’t get hit and Jim Wolf needs glasses) so Gardner is on first and Cano is up.  Gardner steals second as Wake throws strike one.

7:38pm – Along with the painful foot, I’m starting to feel a little punky tonight.  Hopefully it’s no biggie and will go away, but that stomach ache I thought Papelbon gave me hasn’t gone away…so if I suddenly stop live-blogging, it’s probably just because I’ve passed out.  😉

7:39pm – Wake strikes out Cano…woo!

7:40pm – With the shift on, Giambi grounds out and moves Gardner to third.  Also, Ponson is supposed to pitch tonight, but Phil Hughes is in the bullpen throwing.  Donnie O wonders if he’s just getting some throwing in, or if he’s going to be coming into the game.

7:41pm – Van Every catches out number three…nice inning for Wake.

7:44pm – The kid announcing the lineups totally butchers Gil Velazquez’ name and Donnie O STILL says “Good Job”.  Ponson IS in the game and Coco gets a double off of him.  Woooo!

7:45pm – One out, Coco on third and Chris Carter is up.  Carter grounds out and Coco scores.  1-0 Sox.

7:46pm – Jeff Bailey is up.  Remy waxes poetic on what a “long weekend” it has been.

7:47pm – Bailey gets an infield hit on one of those hits that could be a bunt…yay!  Here comes The Mayor!

7:49pm – Casey hits the ball to the first baseman and the inning is over.  1-0 Boston – woot!

7:51pm – Donnie O tells me Cody Ransom is up…but Cody looks an awful lot like Ivan Rodriguez and since Pudge is the one who just grounded out, well I’m going with my eyes instead of Donnie O.  🙂

7:52pm – Wilson Betemit has those Brendan Donnelly hipster glasses on tonight.  Does he always wear those?  I’ve never noticed.  No matter…he grounds out to Alex Cora and Wake has two quick outs.

7:54pm – If I’m going to live-blog I should pay better attention to the lineups, huh?  Coco catches the third out but I have no idea who hit it.

7:57pm – Lowrie legs out a base hit!

7:58pm – Jonathan Van Every is up.  He has pretty eyes.  Lots of the Sox have pretty eyes.  Maybe Theo is an eye dude?

7:59pm – JVE foul tips it to strike out.  One on, one out and Kevin Cash is up.  Kevie’s goin’ deep!!!

8:01pm – Well he swung at strike two, but Lowrie stole second without a throw so it’s all good.  KellyO just witnessed the first stolen base in Jed’s career!

8:01b– And instead of going deep, Cash strikes out looking.  It’s up to Gil to go deep.

8:03pm – Given all the empty seats, I keep looking to see if KellyO has upgraded…so far I haven’t seen her.

Miranda. Get it?

Miranda. Get it?

8:04pm – Gil grounds out.  Still 1-0 Sox.

8:06pm – Here comes the Melkman.

8:07pm – Melky almost tries to turn a single into a double but thinks better of it in time to stay put on first.

8:08pm – Yeesh.  Juan Miranda gets a single too.  First and second and no outs.  Settle down, Wake.

8:09pm – Woo!  I have no idea who just hit that, but he’s out!  🙂

8:10pm – Robinson Cano is up with one out and two on and crushes the ball to Jeff Bailey (who is in left field).  Nice try Robbie.  I hear booing…must be HGHiambi up next.

8:11pm – I generally like facial hair on a man.  But Giambi’s ‘stache makes him look like a perv.  He has to know this, right?

8:11b – Sounds like more fans showed up and they’re all chanting “Let’s Go Red Sox”.  Gotta love ’em!

8:12pm – Wake has a full count on Giambi.  Remy claims EVERY pitch Wake has thrown thus far has been a knuckleball.  And Wake strikes him out swinging and Wake leaves the mound with a bit of a smirk on his face!

8:14pm – Remy tries to do an Ace Ticket promo and the background music NESN plays is drowning him out.  Crisp, Cora and Carter are up this inning.

8:15pm – When we saw Coco last night he was wearing a track suit.   Oh, and he just flew out to Gardner.

8:16pm – Joey’s little brother smashes a single past the first baseman shortstop (potatoe, potahto)!  One on, baby!

8:17pm – Carter flies out.  Two down.

8:18pm – The peanut guy really wants you to buy his nuts.

8:19pm – Bailey strikes out looking.  Remy thinks there will be a lot of those since the umps want to go home too.

8:22pm – Took a quick break, come back to Wake with one out and Heidi Watney on my tv.   Pudge is out.  🙂

8:23pm – Betemit hits a flyout – inning done.  Woo!

8:28pm – Saying goodnight to the goddaughter I missed that entire inning.  No one scored.  There you go.

8:30pm – Cody Ransom makes the first out of the inning.  Suddenly, I’m saddened by the fact that this is the last RemDawg/Donnie O game until next March/April.

8:30b – Heidi tells us JD felt good today.  I’d like to hear about Youk and Paps, thanks.

8:31pm – Masterson is up in the bullpen.  Melky goes down on called strikes (with what Remy thinks is Wake’s first fastball of the night).  Wake has 50 pitches with 2 outs in the fifth.  Sweet.

8:32pm – NESN was showing a replay while Wake was throwing and Wake hit Miranda with a pitch – which NESN missed.  Remy even said “What happened?”  WTF?

8:34pm – Three outs.  Job well done, Wake.

8:36pm – Shocker of shockers…it’s raining at Fenway.

8:37pm – Kevin Cash hits the ball to Cody Ransom.  1 out.

8:39pm – Gil hits a fly ball to Melky.  Two quick outs.  Make it three.  1-0 Boston after five.

8:41pm – The Sullivan Tire commercial with Pedroia when Jim Rice shows up and Pedie says “I don’t believe it, it’s  Jim Rice!” always kills me.  Is it such a surprise to see Jim Rice?  Doesn’t he see Jim Rice every day?

8:42pm – Masterson is in.  David Ross is in.  Kevin Cash is on third which means Lowrie is out and Don and Jerry are now talking about Meryl Masterson’s cookies again.  Do with that what you will.

8:43pm – Cano is up again.  Feels like he’s been up 10 times today.  Masterson gives up a hit to him.  Masterson best not muck this up for Wake.

8:44pm – Please make Heidi Watney stop talking.  Thank you.

8:45pm – You can hear the “Ster-oids” chant loud and clear!  Haven’t heard that in a while!  So, yeah, you know who is up.

8:45b – Masterson gives up a hit to HGHiambi.  First and third, no outs.  I worry for Wake’s win and wonder why Tito took him out. 😡

8:46pm – And with a failed double-play, there goes Wake’s win.  Kevin Cash and Justin Masterson don’t want to cross my path tomorrow.  😡

8:48pm – Sure, NOW Masterson gets the double-play.  1-1.  Grr.

8:50pm – Bottom of the sixth, Donnie O is introducing us to all the camera folks.  Very cool.

8:51pm – Cora grounds out.  One out…Remy is talking about Fleetwood Mac.

8:52pm – Chris Carter strikes out.  Here comes Jeff Bailey…who strikes out.  1-1 at the end of 6.

8:57pm – Masterson v Betemit.  And Aardsma is up in the bullpen, as is Darrell Rasner for the Yanks.

8:58pm – Wilson grounds out to Gil.  One out and Cody Ransom is up.

8:59pm – Talk of the season beginning in Tokyo.  Jeez, this season passed by quickly.

9:00pm – Two outs.  Remy and Orsillo are still talking about Japan.

9:01pm – Donnie says “I’m glad we went” Remy says “I’m not” as Melky gets an infield hit.  Let us just say, Kevin Cash is no Mike Lowell.

9:02pm – Masterson almost picked off Cabrera.  Missed by thismuch.

9:03pm – Justin seems to be growing hair on his chin.  It doesn’t seem to be working well, but he gets points for trying!

9:04pm – Masteson strikes out Miranda.  Time to stretch!

9:08pm – I missed an out and am back in time to see David Ross ground out and Betemit make the worst throw I’ve seen in a long time, putting Ross on second.  Go figure.

9:11pm – JVE has a 2-2 count but Rasner doesn’t know what to do with him.

9:11b – JVE flies out.  Remy and Orsillo refuse to speak until they show the director on tv.  Pretty funny stuff.

9:12pm – Three outs – silence from Remy and Orsillo.  😆

9:15pm – Strike is over and we get shots of their director and producer.  Well done.

9:15b – I hear Black Betty…I see Mike Timlin…and I tear up a little.  Shut up.

9:17pm – I’m pretty sure Timlin gave up  a hit but it’s hard to see right now.  (I’m such a wuss.  The idea that this could be his last time on the mound at Fenway rips my heart out.)

9:18pm – 1058 career appearances for Mike Timlin.  And, if I do say so, he’s looking mighty fine.

9:20pm – David Ross makes a beautiful throw to second, but Gardner steals second anyway.

9:20b – Please do not bring the bad mojo by chanting “Yankees Suck” while Timlin is on the mound…thanks.

9:22pm – Cano hits it to Gil.  We get one out and Gardner on third.  Here comes Giambi.   I have faith, Mike.

9:24pm – Are they chanting “Melky Sucks”?

9:25pm – Mike has a full count on Giambi…

9:25b – He popped him up!!!!!!  Fuck you, freak, you’re out!

9:26pm – Nady is up…get him out, Mike, get him out.

9:27pm – KellyO texts me that the chant is “Shave Your Moustache”.  I love Red Sox fans!

9:27b – Timlin walks Nady.  Which, given how he’s been hitting the Sox, I really don’t mind.  First and third with two outs and I have no idea who up…

9:29pm – Hey it’s Francisco Cervelli!

9:31pm – 2-2 count…Nady takes second.  Men on second and third with two outs.  Come on, Mike, you can do this.

9:32pm – I want this homeplate umpire to suffer.  I’m just sayin’.

9:33pm – WOOOOOOO!!!! Struck him out swinging!!!!!!!!!!!  Way to go, Mike, way to freaking go!!!!!

9:38pm – I’m so happy for Mike that I missed the first out of the inning.  Coco is up with a full count.  🙂

9:39pm – Coco walks.  Let’s start something, fellas.

9:41pm – Cora is staring intently at Demarlo Hale…let’s do something big AC.

9:43pm – Because my stomach doesn’t hurt enough yet, David Aardsma is up in the bullpen.  I kid.  I  kid the smiley bald guy.

9:44pm – The bullpen band kicks in and NESN shows them.  The cop is sitting in the bullpen with them!!!!  George Kottaras is not impressed.

9:45pm – Alex walks and Coco, unnecessarily steals a base. :)  Two on, one out.  Come on, guys – you can’t give Wake the win…give it to Timlin.

9:46pm – Chris Carter and his Bellhornian hair at bat.

9:47pm – The bullpen cop has joined the bullpen band in playing the rally music!!!!  Good God I love them!

9:48pm – Chris Carter walks!!!  Three walks = bases loaded.

9:49pm – Jeff Bailey is up.  Remember how you didn’t suck in Pawtuket Jeff?  Howsabout we get some of that now?

9:50pm – Guy walks three guys and strikes out Bailey looking on 3 pitches.  The Mayor is up.  Do it for Timlin, Sean, do it for Timlin!

9:52pm – SEAN CASEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Two out base hit knocking in 2 runs!!!!  3-1 Red Sox with Timlin as the pitcher of record.  Fucking A baby!!!!!!!!!!!

9:53pm – Rasner just threw the ball over David Ross’ head.  I’m sure Ross is flattered.

9:54pm – Ross ends the inning but who cares really?  3-1 Red Sox going into the ninth.  :)  The Bullpen Band comes through again!

9:56pm – I’m sure David Aardsma is a perfectly nice guy.  But I promise you, with his (in my mind) taking Kyle’s roster spot this year, I already harbor deep, negative feelings that I try not to let shine through.  If he fucks this up for Mike Timlin, I will find him and his bald head and smack the shit out of him.

9:57pm – Aardsma gives up a hit to Betemit and Johnny Damon gets booed back to the Bronx as he approaches the plate.  Double play, Demon, double play.

10:00pm – Demon walks.  Two on, no outs and Melky up.  Melky bunts, Aardsma doesn’t know what to do with it and the bases are loaded.  Fuck me.

10:01pm – Velasquez and Van Every collide, JVE still catches the ball but a run scores. No one is hurt (thankfully) men on 1st and 3rd with one out and Gardner up.  3-2 Sox in the ninth.

10:03pm – Holy cow Aardsma struck Gardner out looking and Gardner barked at the ump.  Sit down, punk.

10:04pm – Cano up….get him out Aardsma.

10:05pm – Or tie the game up in the ninth and fuck it all up.  Whatever makes you happy.  Fuck.

10:05b – Yes, this is me ignorning the “news” about Beckett’s possible oblique injury.

10:08pm – As tempted as I am to rip into Aardsma, my heart breaks for the guy.  Not what he wanted to do…shit happens.  It just sucks when it happens in the ninth friggin’ inning.

10:09pm – Of course Giambi grounds out.  They already tied it up.  Guh.

10:12pm – Jonathan Van Every could end this now…

10:14pm – Or he could walk.  I’ll take that.

10:16pm – Kevin Cash strikes out.  One out.  JVE on first.  Remy seems to think that Gil is going to get the game-winning hit.  Claims he called it before the game.

10:18pm – Gil has a 3-1 count.  Jerry thinks he should have had the green light.  🙂

10:19pm – Gil doesn’t get the winning RBI, but he knocks him into scoring position and brings up Coco.

10:20pm – Holy cow, Coco’s uniform is filthy.

10:21pm – 3-1 count…Coco pops it up.  My good will toward David Aardsma is waning.

10:24pm – Devern Hansack gets the first out of the 10th.

10:27pm – And the second.  Between Aardsma and the possible Beckett news…it’s tough to focus on the rest of this game…

10:30pm – Hansack has a 1-2-3 10th inning.  Please let’s get this over with so we can hear from Tito about Beckett…thanks.

10:33pm – Alex Cora shall lead us to victory.

10:36pm – WHAT DID I JUST WRITE????  Alex Cora with a triple, mofos, a TRIPLE, to start the 10th inning!

10:37pm – Chris Carter with a chance to make all of RSN love him immediately…

10:39pm – Carter strikes out and now Jeff Bailey gets that chance.  Er, no he doesn’t because they are going to intentionally walk him to get to Sean Casey.

10:41pm – The Mayor also gets walked, so they can pitch to David Ross.  Donnie O wants to see Big Papi.  So do I.  Tito likes his chances with Ross.

10:42pm – Remy is in ‘homer’ mode.  “All right RossY!”.  😆

10:42b – Ross almost got hit.  What was he thinking?  TAKE ONE FOR THE TEAM!

10:43pm – Papi is in the dugout laughing.  Good to see his stomach is stronger than mine.  2-2 count on Ross.

10:45pm – Ross strikes out.   It’s up to Jonathan Van Every.  End our pain JVE, end it now.

10:46pm – Jonathan Van Every gets mobbed!!!!!  Walk off win with his base hit!!!!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS TEAM!

10:47pm – I don’t care that this game was “meaningless”…I wanted this win.  Thank you, Jonathan Van Every!  Now get me some Tito on my tv to tell me about Beckett.

I’m gonna tell you a story
I’m gonna tell you about my town
I’m gonna tell you a big bad story, baby
Aww, it’s all about my town

Yeah, down by the river
Down by the banks of the river Charles (aw, that’s what’s happenin’ baby)
That’s where you’ll find me
Along with lovers, fuggers, and thieves (aw, but they’re cool people)
Well I love that dirty water
Oh, Boston, you’re my home (oh, you’re the Number One place)
Frustrated women (I mean they’re frustrated)
Have to be in by twelve o’clock (oh, that’s a shame)
But I’m wishin’ and a-hopin, oh
That just once those doors weren’t locked (I like to save time for
my baby to walk around)
Well I love that dirty water
Oh, Boston, you’re my home (oh, yeah)

Because I love that dirty water
Oh, oh, Boston, you’re my home (oh, yeah)

Well, I love that dirty water (I love it, baby)
I love that dirty water (I love Baw-stun)
I love that dirty water (Have you heard about the Strangler?)
I love that dirty water (I’m the man, I’m the man)
I love that dirty water (Owww!)
I love that dirty water (Come on, come on)

THANK YOU, BOSTON RED SOX, FOR A FABULOUS 2008 SEASON – NOW GO KICK ASS IN THE POST-SEASON!
