All Bronson, All the Time

Bronsontv2 Okay, not really…but today’s Globe article is starting to upset me.  (That link goes straight to the article.  Sc*ew giving them more credit than that for upsetting me today.)

The good part of the article:

”We continue to move closer toward a discounted deal that Bronson is providing to the Boston Red Sox because he wants to do anything he can do to remain a Red Sox for not only these three years but the remainder of his career," Clifton (Arroyo’s agent) said last night. ”He’s saying, ‘I know this is a discounted deal, but I want to remain here. How do I get a chance to do this forever?’

So, again, not only does Bronson want to stay here, but he wants to stay for a long time and he doesn’t mind taking less money than he could be worth to do so.  Right on, Bronson.  I’m going to order your jersey next week when I get paid.

But wait, Cyn…don’t order that jersey yet.  This part of the article is what is disturbing:

”While we do not support him in his decision to provide a discount, we hope the Boston Red Sox will not take advantage of Bronson’s loyalty and use a potential discounted deal to trade him."

Sox co-general manager Jed Hoyer, when reached by phone, declined to comment last night.

Man, I love the part about his going against his agent’s advice.  That must set agents everywhere just off the charts.  Good job, Bronson.  But the part about being worried about the Sox using his good will to turn around and trade him…and Jed Hoyer not commenting on it…well those things worry me.

Maybe not Hoyer commenting.  I mean, historically, the Red Sox get a little cranky when someone else releases information about a deal.  So maybe Jed is just playing it close to the vest.  And maybe Clifton is just being a back-stabbing, spawn of Satan agent by throwing that dig in about trading him, just to ENSURE the Red Sox either DON’T trade him or look REALLY BAD if they DO trade him now.

Either way, the team still needs a centerfielder…so I’m not going to feel secure about Bronson’s place on the team until they get one.

What a way to start the day!
