Not quite how I planned it

Yeesh.  When you leave Fenway at 1am, you don’t want to be listening to the organist playing  “Good Night Sweetheart” or “Que Sera Sera”.  We were supposed to hear “Dirty Water”, dammit.  And “Tessie”!  This is the fourth game in a row that I’ve been to where they’ve lost.  WTF Red Sox?  WTF?

Now that that’s out of my system…

Good showing by the bullpen tonight.  For the first time in a while, they didn’t catch “the suck” from the starting pitcher.  I was impressed all around and I blame Javier Lopez not for that run.  By that point, someone had to score.  The Sox had plenty of opportunities and they didn’t capitalize on them.  That isn’t Javy’s fault so back off him.

Angels needed this more than the Sox and they got it.  Steve Buckley (are you kidding me?  STEVE BUCKLEY?  Yes, Steve Buckley) was just on NESN with Heidi Watney saying something that made me feel loads better.  I guess Josh’s problem tonight wasn’t an injury, just rust from not having pitched in a while (which is what I had suggested to KellyO – but I didn’t quite believe it at the time).  Buckley went on to say that this could work out to totally benefit the Sox as this could be seen as Beckett’s “rehab” assignment.  If Crabcakes can come through tomorrow, that would set things up for Beckett to pitch Game 1 of the ALCS.

Not that I’m getting ahead of myself.  After this game, I know anything is possible.  But I like that Buckley is taking the optimistic view here and I choose to do the same.

My friend Emmie texted me after the game “It means more if we work for it…right?”  I don’t know that I always go along with that line of thinking…but if we’re ARE going to get the ultimate prize, I guess it serves us well to get some humble pie along the way.
