Just Can’t Get Enough

Every morning, without fail, I wake up with a song in my head.  Yesterday, it was Depeche Mode (see subject line!).  This morning there was no song.  Only two words being repeated over and over again:

Josh Beckett.

Seriously.  It was a little surreal. (At least the voice in my head was my own!)  But it shows you how deeply today has affected me.

I want them to win.

There I said it.  No “It’s okay if they lose, it’s a 5-game series”.  No “It’s unfair to put all the pressure on Beckett”.  Screw it.  I want the Red Sox to sweep the Angels and make them go home sad.  I want the Sox to be able to sit back and watch the Chicago/Tampa Bay series (which I want to go five games!) and say “Who cares who wins?  We’re all set, thanks!”.  That’s all.  Is that too much to ask?

In a couple of hours I’m off to meet with Ted and Rob and KellyO and the rest of the crazy gang that decided a last-minute, “drive-by” (as we’ve been calling it) palooza was the way to go on this special day.  I wish more of my friends (especially the sistahs) could be there to celebrate with us…I’m reminded more and more of how some of the folks closest to me I met because of the Red Sox and that puts me in a mood to celebrate!

Worst case scenario, the Sox will rely on Crabcakes tomorrow to bring them he ALDS.  Best case scenario, Joshua Patrick Beckett comes out tonight with his guns blazing and sends Anaheim packing.  I like our odds in both scenarios, but I want Josh to be the hero tonight. And not just because I’ll be there to see it happen. Make it so, Joshua Patrick*.

*I’ve noticed I usually refer to Beckett as “JP” when he’s on the mound.  As in, “Let’s go JP!”  Which is fine to do when I’m not in the park, but when I’m AT the park and do it, invariably someone says to me “You know that’s not Papelbon, right?  😆
