Seriously, does this guy actually pay attention to baseball?
He just said that this Yankees/Red Sox series will be more interesting because the Yankees and Red Sox are trading places (being in first place) every other day.
This morning the Yankees were in first place and tonight the Red Sox are.
When was the last time the Yankees were in first place (prior to this morning)?
Anyone? Anyone?
Mr. Morgan, I notice you don’t have your hand raised.
Let me help you out. May 13, 2006.
I’ll explain, Mr. Morgan. Although the Red Sox and Yankees have been TIED for first various times, the last time the Red Sox weren’t in first place (either alone or in a tie) was May 13. And between May 13 and June 4, they have been tied with the Yankees for first place 4 times. So in 22 days, the Sox have spent 2 days NOT in first place and 4 days tied for first. Just more proof that Joe Morgan doesn’t research a dam thing before he starts yapping on Sunday nights.
(And, for the record, including doing the research, the math and typing it out, it took me less than ten minutes to get this info. Joe really doesn’t do much all week. He could have taken the time.)
He also just said that Detroit losing the Yankees AND Red Sox series’ isn’t an indication of how they are playing. Huh? That’s EXACTLY what it was. They come up against two good teams and out of seven games they only pull out two wins. That, to me and pretty much any one else who actually PAYS ATTENTION TO BASEBALL, is very telling.
He is now going on about how "pitching is great, but you need to score runs" and talking about how it’s more important to pick up a good position player than it is to pick up a good pitcher. Hello, Joe? Next week, during the Red Sox/Yanks series that he just warned us he’ll be covering on Wednesday and Thursday, when the pitching woes of both teams comes up, how much do you want to bet he says the exact OPPOSITE about pitchers and position players than he did tonight?
How does Peter Gammons NOT just blurt out, "Do a half-hour of research, Joe, and you won’t sound like such a dope!!!"?
