Red Sox game three: It has to get better

The Red Sox are now 0-3.  There were two games this weekend that they could have won (not easily, but the opportunities were there and, unfortunately, they were squandered) but they didn’t. So now Red Sox fans have to deal with the negativity and worry that comes with your team starting off the season 0-3.

The Red Sox aren’t the only team to begin the season this way.  The New York Yankees were swept by the Tampa Bay Rays to start off their season.  The Minnesota Twins, Atlanta Braves, and San Francisco Giants are all members of the 2012 0-3 club.  In 2011, the Braves suffered a similarly epic collapse (going into September with an 8 1/2 game lead for the Wild Card, only to fail to make the playoffs on the last day of the season).   Red Sox fans weren’t the first to have to deal with under producing teams and they won’t be the last.

While it might not feel like it there were a few positives to take from yesterday’s extra-inning loss, the pitching performances of Vicente Padilla (two hits in four scoreless innings with four strikeouts) and Franklin Morales (one hit in two scoreless innings and three strikeouts) should be encouraging to fans looking for silver linings. But, really, if you’re looking for silver linings after only three games you should probably just take a step back and breathe.  This first series was brutal but it was only three games.

What’s more fun for baseball fans than watching their teams come back from a deficit and succeed?
