“He looks like a grouch all the time”

Not too long ago there was an article circulating about how Trot was “toiling” in AAA ball in the Arizona system.

“You can ask why all day long, and you may never find the answer,” Nixon said. “You just keep plugging away and doing what you can to help the team win ballgames, and let that decision be made by other front offices.”

It saddened those of us in Red Sox Nation who adored Trot when he was with us and who still hold fond feelings for him. So I was thrilled to pop open the laptop this morning and find out that the D’Backs traded Trot to the Mets – and he’s going to be on their major league roster!

Nixon is expected to fill the void left by Moises Alou, who went back on the disabled list Friday with a lingering calf strain.

The Mets also are without right fielder Ryan Church, who is on the 15-day disabled list with post-concussion syndrome, and reserve outfielder Angel Pagan, who is sidelined with a shoulder injury.

“With Alou down, it’s a left-handed bat,” said Mets general manager Omar Minaya, who expects Nixon to join the team for Saturday’s game against Texas. “I checked around with a lot of guys who played with him and they all speak highly of him.”

One of them is Mets starter Pedro Martinez, who was teammates with Nixon from 1998-04 and together helped the Red Sox win the 2004 World Series.

“He looks like a grouch all the time,” Martinez said, suppressing a laugh. “But he’s a good guy. You’ll see.”

Pedro and Trot together again!

Congrats to Trot for getting another chance at the bigs. I’m glad he’s in the National League still so I can guiltlessly cheer for him!

See how I found a story to take my mind off of the suck that was last night’s game? (Except for you, Justin Masterson. You didn’t suck. Smack your teammates upside their heads with your bible for me, okay?)

Having a sistahs weekend in New Hampshire to say safe travels to one of the sistahs leaving the East Coast. It’ll be a wonderful time if not bittersweet. We’ll still catch today’s game and I should be home tomorrow in time for the sportsapalooza that will be baseball and basketball.

Have a great Saturday, folks!

(Edited to add that Sean Casey gets a free pass from a Masterson ass-whooping as he got his 1500th career hit last night.  Congrats Sean!  Please help the team to not suck for the rest of the road trip!)
