Curtain Call Count

First game of the season.

Down by one run in the sixth inning with no outs.

Melky Cabrera hits a home run to tie the score.

You guessed it – the first curtain call of the season in Yankee Stadium.

I wish I could watch every Yankees game this season just to count them. Does Johnny get one for grounding out?

Not this time. Oh well, Johnny, your time will come. Maybe if you scratch your balls while you’re in the on-deck circle next time?

Do they ask Melky for their curtain call back if the Yankees end up losing?

I’m so glad baseball is back. 😆

EDIT: Wow, that was fast. I already have an email from a Yankees fan telling me that I’m being too hard on the fans and the curtain calling because it’s the opening day game and it’s the last season at Yankee Stadium.

SO, to be fair, tying the game is a big deal. The Yankees just went from losing to it basically being an 0-0 game. Good for them.

But I maintain, even though it was worthy of celebrating, a curtain call is just a bit much.

And now I witness the curse of the superfluous curtain call. Melky made two great catches earlier and now he just tried to make another one – and didn’t.

Beware the Superfluous Curtain Call Curse, Yankees fans, beware.

(Paul O’Neill just said “Expescially”. I love this.)

Another Edit: The Yankees are leading by one and Michael Kay tells us that Roy Halladay screamed at Melky Cabrera to “Get back in the dugout” when he took his curtain call. (Doc just struck Melky out, incidentally.)

See, I’m not the only one who thought it was stupid. SCCC strikes again, Melkman.

I think I heart Roy Halladay. 😆

Joba is in. YES is ‘following him in” like he’s the closer.

It’s the 8th inning.

God is blessing me with tiny pieces of heaven tonight. Even with the Yankees winning I can’t stop laughing at them.
