How tiresome

Josh Beckett: 4-0, baby!
Whenever the Sox play the Yanks, I tend to visit more message boards and blogs relating to the two teams than I usually do.  I find it interesting to read what folks are saying.  I’m not sure what I expected to read from Yankees fans, but I’ll admit to being surprised at how arrogant most have been.  (I know everyone thinks "Yankees fans" and "arrogant" are synonymous, but I try to give folks the benefit of the doubt.)

The prevailing attitude is that Red Sox fans should be ‘worried’ because the Yankees didn’t have their "A" team out there and still ‘almost’ beat the Red Sox.  And I actually have read from more than one Yankees fan, that the losses don’t matter because of how well ARod is playing.  And, of course, there is the old stand-by, "It’s only April".

That one is my favorite.  It’s only April and the Red Sox are beating the Yankees so it means nothing to them, but, even though it’s ONLY April, ARod is going to win the triple crown this year.  Spare me.

Last year, both the Yankees and Red Sox were plagued with injuries.  If a Red Sox fan dares point to injuries to say "well, if not for injuries, we could have won" Yankees fans accuse them of making excuses.  But when it is the Yankees, well that’s a whole new ballgame (so to speak).

Hideki Matsui is the only starting position player not out there right now.  Damon came in to pinch hit yesterday and Posada has, what, a bruised thumb?   So I’m interested to know how injuries are plaguing the Yanks.  Oh yes, in their pitching.  The Yankees are, currently, going through what the Red Sox did last year in regard to their starting pitching.  Funny how Yankees fans seem to forget how they hammered home to me last year that having the likes of Jason Johnson and Kason Gabbard starting for us was all part of the game.  Also interesting to note that many Yankees fans emailed me and commented when the Sox picked up  Matsuzaka that the potent bats of the Yankees will always beat our pitching…yet now all I’m hearing is "of course good pitching beats good hitting!".

Yankees fans not giving the Red Sox credit for winning these first two games is as stupid as a Red Sox fan not being able to admit that ARod is on fire right now.  He is.  For all the good it has done the Yankees in Boston.
