Fever-Induced Update

Those who know me know that I haven’t posted in a couple of days because I’m sick.  (It was pointed out to me that I seem to get sick a lot – February is a big sick month for me – one of the results of working in a small office where the windows aren’t opened and everyone seems to come in when they’re sick.   What are you going to do?)

I decided to lift my head up from my fevered stupor to see what’s going on in the baseball world and was quite happy to see that 1) the Mets and Santana came to an agreement but more importantly, 2) the Red Sox signed Sean Casey to a one-year deal!

Casey’s one of those guys I’ve always liked watching.  He’s a good guy (by now  you’ve all probably heard about the SI poll where MLB players voted overwhelmingly that he was the nicest guy in baseball) and he has a decent bat.  He’s a little slow coming around the bases, but he has other talents that make up for that.  The Sox signed him for $800,000 for a year.  He’s a veteran who won’t bitch about coming off the bench and he’s talented enough that we won’t be worried if Youk needs a rest during the season.  And he’s a fabulous clubhouse guy (as well as a generous, good person in "real" life too).  So, yeah, I’m pretty happy about this.

I’m also happy that the Mets could get an extension with Santana hammered out so we didn’t have to go back to worrying about Theo giving up the kids or the Yankees throwing a bajillion dollars and 30 years at Santana.

I’m hoping to be able to lift my had long enough to watch Tom Brady and the Patriots make history on Sunday.  If they do, I promise you, I’m getting out of my sick bed and drinking some champagne!

Thanks for all the well-wishes, folks, and the virtual chicken soup from Ted!!!   Things could always be worse.

As Kelly J pointed out, if I’m well enough to be able to check in on the internet for a minute or two, I suppose it really ISN’T Malaria.  😀
