Baseball in October

PeoriaNo, I’m not talking about the playoffs.  I’m talking about the Arizona Winter League.  Lenny Dinardo is playing for the Peoria Javelinas this year (as are David Pauley, Jacoby Ellsbury and a handful of players from the Red Sox organization), so I decided to follow the team.  Luis Alicea is the manager of the team – it’s Red Sox old home week over there!

They played their first game today, and didn’t do so well.  (I ‘watched’ some of the game on Game Day – how very cool that MLB has Game Day for the Arizona League games!)  The lost 12-6, but had a nice little run in the 9th, so they didn’t look as bad as it reads.

Lenny pitched 1.2 innings today and he gave up two unearned runs.  (They scored because of an error, but he DID leave the game with men on second and third!)  He struck out two (both swinging), gave up three hits and walked no one.  All in all, he looks pretty much like he did this season.  I’m really hoping the Winter League is going to help him straighten himself up.

The team has 1:05pm games tomorrow through Saturday.  I’m guessing (hoping) they’ll all be on Game Day, so I’ll be following somehow.

Go Peoria!  (What the hell do you call them?  Javs?)
