THIS was the recipe card collection I wanted. This is the one that sat on top of my mother’s refrigerator from the time she purchased it in the 1970s until the early 2000’s when it went into storage after a fire destroyed my parents’ house and most of what was inside. (My mother claims this was salvaged and if I want to go dig through the storage unit I’d find it but I chose to purchase this from eBay so there’s a possibility there will be a time when I own two of these.)
I can’t remember my mother making ONE thing out of this box. Â Not one. (I still don’t understand why my mother buys cookbooks and recipe cards because I don’t think I’ve ever seen her make anything from a recipe unless it was one that was given to her by someone she trusted like her grandmother, her mother or one of her friends.) Â Still, this collection was a part of my life for a very long time. I used to read the cards and look at the photos and imagine that I cooked everything in it for some big dinner party. I was a weird kid.
If I can find the time, something will be made from this set this weekend. Probably something sweet but I’m hoping to branch out to actually food at some point.
