Red Sox announcer Carl Beane dies in car accident

In a tragic turn, reports are coming in that Carl Beane, the public address announcer at Fenway Park, has died in a single car crash in Sturbridge, Massachusetts.

A preliminary investigation shows that Beane’s Suzuki crossed double solid lines, left the road and hit a tree and a wall on Holland Road.

Those who knew Beane, along with many Red Sox fans, have taken to Twitter to remark on the passing of the popular Fenway icon with most calling him kind, gentle, and nice, among other things.

Beane has his own website which, as of this writing, hasn’t been updated to reflect the tragedy.  He was a native of Massachusetts and often told people he loved his job. Along with being the PA announcer, he worked as a stringer at WHDH Channel 7 news in Boston and taught broadcasting and play-by-play classes at the Connecticut School of Broadcasting.

The Red Sox are on the road in Kansas City but will be returning to Fenway Park tomorrow night to begin a six game home stand against the Cleveland Indians and Seattle Mariners.  Thursday night will be the first time since 2003 that Carl Beane doesn’t announce a Red Sox game.
