Red Sox game twelve: Reliever was no relief

When Josh Beckett left the game after seven innings last night, the Red Sox were losing 3-2. Not a big deal.  Beckett wouldn’t get the win if the Sox came back but there was still plenty of time left in the game for the Red Sox to mount that comeback.

Enter the bullpen.

In the 8th inning, Franklin Morales got only one out and threw 29 pitches.  With those pitches he walked three and gave up two hits and three runs.  More than the Rangers needed, really, since the final score was 6-3 thanks to a walk, an error and a single scoring Cody Ross in the 9th inning.  The Texas Rangers swept the Red Sox in a two-game series and continue their winning streak to six games while the Red Sox are riding a three-game losing streak for the second time this season (the first being when they opened the season being swept by the Detroit Tigers).

Today the Red Sox players have a seemingly well-needed day off while the team itself hosts a free open house at Fenway from 9am-7pm.  Head into Boston and enter the park from any of the gates and tour Fenway, check out memorabilia and maybe even meet a Red Sox legend (and possibly one of the current players).  It’s the precursor to tomorrow’s 100th anniversary celebration and a great way to get the last few days of baseball off your mind while still getting exciting about baseball at Fenway Park.
