Halloween 2011

The light on my front porch doesn’t work.  This wouldn’t be a big deal but it makes the house look like no one is home and kids won’t come by to trick or treat.  So what I do is take the jack-o-lantern and light it, put a folding chair in the front walk and surround myself with candles and wait for the kids.  Tonight was a bit cold but really not as bad as I thought it would be…and I really do have fun handing out the candy.  I made a Halloween playlist, brought the laptop out with me and spent two hours giving out candy.  It was a good night.

Mostly little kids and a lot of scary costumes this year.  Michael Myers, Jason Vorhees and various forms of ghoul and/or Grim Reaper were the big winners but my favorite was this boy in probably 5th grade looking very natty.  I was trying to figure out why he looked so family and decided to ask him what the costume was.  “I’m Doctor Who!” he said.  “I’m the tenth Doctor!’  He was adorable and very excited that I knew who Ten was.

Also worth remembering: A kid about, I’m guessing, eleven dressed as Michael Myers.  He played the part well, dragging his feet and staying quiet (until he muttered “Thank you” when I gave him his candy).  “When Doves Cry” was playing on my iTunes and he turned to leave and then turned back and said, in the cheeriest of voices, “I really like that song!” and then he left.

I suppose the best part was that there was no Halloween candy leftover so I can’t even say that I gorged myself on candy because no one showed up.
