Things I learned yesterday

These are the kids who were left at the end of the day…there were many, many more there! (And that’s my niece Madison on the left in the “Hello Kitty” shirt!)

* Family reunions are fun. I knew this already, but it’s been a few years since the last one and I think we had more fun at THIS one than that one. Spending a summer day in a huge, gorgeous in-ground pool surrounded by people you loved is much more entertaining than watching the Sox lose to the Yanks again. 😉

* Yankees fans really DO have reading issues. First the Papelbon quotes, now me. I got much more than a handful of emails and comments wanting to know why I was too chicken (that’s the nicest word one used, so we’ll go with THAT) to post after yesterday’s game. This after I posted yesterday saying I was probably going to miss most of if not all of the game (which I did). Good work trolls.

* Another thing I already knew: When I don’t SEE the Sox lose (even if it’s a double-digit beatdown from the Yanks) the loss doesn’t bother me quite as much as if I watched it.

* I’m NOT as reactionary as I worry I might be. Manny? Pissed me off a little Friday but redeemed himself (a little) by playing Saturday. Two losses to the Yankees? As the barrage of Yankees fans comments and emails indicates (I love the new inferiority complex coming out of the Bronx), the Yanks needed these games more than the Sox. Not that you don’t need every win you can get, but the Yankees are the ones clawing their way out of third. With two full months of ball left to play, if you’ve come here looking for me to write about how horrible the Sox are and how we should all panic…well, you’ve come to the wrong blog.

In 2006 the Sox, on this date, were 61-39 and a game and a half over the Yankees for first place. They were in FIRST place and ended up not even in the playoffs. So the current standings don’t frighten me a bit. Sorry Yankees trolls. (Incidentally, if you’re wondering WHERE the Yankees troll comments are, they get sent immediately to spam and don’t even show up, unless they’re a first time troller (and I take care of those quickly enough). You want to leave a comment that isn’t offensive? Have at it. Thus far (this week) there hasn’t been ONE that wasn’t vulgar and/or personally attacking me or the team.

It’s a Red Sox blog. If you want to read a fan who orally copulates the Yankees, you can go start your own blog.

Jon Lester is, once again, being looked at as the ‘stopper’ for this team. Once again, I am not convinced he’ll do it. I hope that he’ll prove me wrong, once afreakingain.
