The Good Stuff

(Totally ripped off from the PawSox site!)

Unrelated to the Sox, I have a headache and had shut the television off before the suckage began (am listening to the radio broadcast). So it’s probably better that I didn’t actually see the bullpen implode or I’d be even crankier than I am.

But on to the good stuff!

First off, JD Drew: AL Player of the Month for June. Well-deserved, JD. Unlike last season when I crossed my fingers and just hoped he’d start to catch fire, this year I have more confidence (not just hope) that he’s going to come through for the team. It’s great to see him get acknowledged by the league as well. (And I just finished voting for him for the All Star Game!)

Speaking of All Star Games: FIVE PawSox players made this year’s International League All Star Team!! (Which will be aired on July 16th at 7:05pm on ESPN2!)

Congratulations to Jeff Bailey, Joe Thurston, Chris Carter, Jonathan Van Every (woot!) and Charlie Zink (double woot!) for making the team. (Woots for all of them, of course, but JVE has won a place in my heart – he bats ninth for crying out loud! – and Charlie Zink has worked damn hard and I love seeing him get some recognition!)

Unfortunately, the PawSox lost tonight. Unlike their parent team, though, they can afford to lose a game with the way they’ve all been playing. I’m heading down on Saturday for a game and will see, most likely, either Clay Buchholz (who is scheduled to pitch) or Justin Masterson (who is scheduled to pitch in NY on Saturday, but you never know if they’ll play with the rotation). Really looking forward to the trip down.

Dustin Pedroia was a single away from the cycle tonight – and hit a double instead! (Knocking in a run in the process.) Hey, you have to pull the good out of the bad, right?) I was also casting votes for Mr. Pedroia tonight.

I shut the radio off and have GameDay on now while I finish this up. The weather seems to be the cause of this headache and it’s a killer. Dim screen on the Mac will only ease my eyes and head for so long. Given what’s gone on in the game since I switched to GameDay, the tv and radio are staying off. 🙂

Oh well, another time when the Red Sox come back and still end up losing.  I was only reading text, but I’m guessing Mike Lowell getting caught stealing was another botched hit and run courtesy of our Captain.  I’ll be honest, again.  I did NOT vote for Tek to go to the All Star Game.  I couldn’t do it.  No way he deserves to be there with the way he’s been playing lately.

In more good (and All Star) news:  Sox prospects will represent in the Eastern League All Star Game as well!  Michael Bowden (more wooting!),  Jeff Corsaletti and our boy Bubba Bell!

Congratulations to all the All Star picks!

It’s 11:09pm by my clock.  You have less than an hour to go vote for the MLB All-Star teams.  Get crackalacking folks!

Sox leave St Pete tonight (I’m guessing) and head for New York to play a four-game series against the Yankees (who prevented themselves from getting swept at home by Texas with a win tonight).  I suppose it’s debatable which one of these teams is sucking it up more lately.  Here’s hoping the Sox get their act together this weekend.  Ninth inning rallies that result in losses aren’t going to cut it.

Crap.  Every time I write something positive, something negative crops up too.  I’ll blame it on the headache (caused by the rain – hey, I can Blame it on the Rain!) and the suckitude of the likes of Manny Delcarmen and Jason Varitek.

Something positive…something positive…

Today in 2004, the Sox were (again) in second place, 8.5 games behind the Yankees, and had just suffered their fourth loss in a row.  In all seriousness, as annoyed as I am right now by tonight’s loss (and I promise you I am extremely friggin’ annoyed), it’s a good reminder that teams are going to go through shitty times and you can’t just give up because they aren’t steamrolling over the competition.  We have a good team.  Our players don’t suck (on the whole).  They’ll get through this period of suckage and will be back to their winning ways.  They don’t call us the “Faithful” for nothing!
