Missed by that much

He’ll always be The "Home Run King" to me!

So the plan was to stay up for the game again, but as most things in life that didn’t go as planned.

I fell asleep after the second inning and woke up after the game was over.  So I can’t really comment on the game too much.  All I know right now is the Sox didn’t win when the really should have and the Yankees gained another game.

I suppose it’s good I missed the bulk of the game since that always makes me less cranky about it.  More annoying is knowing that we have a new ‘home run king’.   Still, when the team gets nine hits and still ends up losing, well there’s just no excuse for that so I guess I am a little grumpy about it.

When I posted about the Yankees/Blue Jays earlier, I failed to note that Clemens and Torre got thrown out of the game in the 7th because Clemens hit Alex Rios.  That’s just typical Yankees, eh?  Everyone in the free world knew ARod was going to get hit during this season, and rightly so.  One would think the Yankees would realize why that happened and just let it end there.  Make no mistake, ARod ‘started’ this.  But no, the Yanks have to play dumb and act like ARod and the team were the ones wronged.  I hope he takes another one to the shin in tonight’s game.

Now that Bonds hit that home run, our collective nightmare is, hopefully, over.  No more interrupting games to show a Bonds at bat, and no more kissing Bonds’ ass just to be politically correct and non-controversial.  Come on, folks, let’s make him a footnote in baseball history.  One with a giant asterisk next to his name.

I don’t often say this about him, but Steve Buckley wrote a wonderful column about Hank Aaron which puts everything into perspective.  I suggest it highly

Going over the box score for the Sox, I am at least encouraged by the fact that Doug Mirabelli did all he could to help his pitcher.   So many members of the fan base point to Dougie as a big ‘problem’ with the team.  I say if the worst ‘problem’ we have is a poor hitting back up catcher, we’re doing all right.  Unfortunately, that isn’t our biggest problem.  The biggest problem right now is not being able to convert hits to runs, nor being able to come back from a deficit.  Not exactly good traits to have for a playoff team, eh?

Oh well.  Can’t wallow in pity about losing 2 two the Angels.  Good team.  Solid hitting AND pitching.  We were bound to hit a couple of bumps in the road to October.  I’m still feeling pretty good about the Sox being able to snap out of this.  Let’s hope Jon Lester is able to be the stopper tonight!
