A personal, off-topic note

I don’t like to post too much off-topic stuff here…but I’m making a major exception today.  Being an adult who was born with Spina Bifida, I take news like this very seriously.  I received this email this morning and wanted to share it with folks, especially those who know me, in the hopes that they’ll respond the way I did.

So thanks for indulging me.

Members of the Spina Bifida Community must ACT NOW to prevent cuts to the FY 2007 budget that threaten the National Spina Bifida Program (NSBP) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

BACKGROUND: The NSBP supports critical programs, research, and services for those who live with Spina Bifida. In the three years since it was created, it has done great work to improve the quality of life for those living with Spina Bifida.

THE PROBLEM: On February 6th, the President released his budget which included cuts to overall health programs, including a cut in funding for the National Spina Bifida Program. NSBP received $4.998 million, which is a $51,000 decrease from the $5.049 million received in 2006. A funding increase in FY 2007 for the NSBP will help support and expand important CDC Spina Bifida quality-of-life initiatives, as well as folic acid education and awareness efforts, to help reduce and prevent Spina Bifida.

There is still time but we must ACT NOW!
