Well, thanks to Peter, 🙂 my radio silence – or media boycott – only lasted 7 hours.
Although, to be fair, this story comes out of Cleveland not Boston.
Apparently, Mr. Shapiro will find it in his heart to keep Mota as part of the trade deal, as long as the Red Sox give up the rest of the team to acquire Coco Crisp.
Okay, that’s a BIT of an exaggeration. But I have been maintaining that if these trade talk stories were even close to being on the right track, it sounded like Shapiro and the Indians were exaggerating themselves. Making Mota’s medical "issues" to be something they weren’t because they wanted more from the Red Sox.
So let’s see what they want now:
Coco Crisp, David Riske, and Josh Bard for Andy Marte, Guillermo Mota, Kelly Shoppach, and Manny Delcarmen.
Come on, Mark, why stop there? Why not ask for Craig Hansen and Jon Lester while you’re at it?
I mean what the heck is he thinking? I can’t honestly believe Theo would let the Indians **** the Red Sox this way…man, I certainly hope not.
I know one thing, I’d be a lot more worried about this if Theo WASN’T at the helm again. Maybe he’ll make, what I think is, the wrong decision…but even when he does that (oh, July of 2004 is coming to mind) I still have faith that 1) he knows what he’s doing and 2) he only has the best interests of the team in mind.
I won’t be happy, but I’ll have faith that he knows something that I don’t.
