One-Man A Christmas Carol – Writers Theatre – December 2020

So here’s a bit of an interesting one. It’s literally just Michael Halberstam on a stage alone reading from the book A Christmas Carol.

There are some graphics. An occasional showing of the pages of the book and some close-ups of faces being shown behind the actor. But it is really just a literal reading of A Christmas Carol.

And it actually works really well.

It isn’t Jefferson Mays acting out every character, but Halberstam’s voice, and alternate voices for various characters, is impressive and memorable and I found myself closing my eyes during the performance to take it in.

Even with the few flourishes of graphics in this performance, which were really not necessary, I feel you wouldn’t be missing the impressiveness of it if you just listened as if someone were reading you a nighttime story.
Admittedly this was a gorgeous visual
