Mike Timlin…Just BecauseOkay, no game last night – double-header today (I’ll be at the night game as will SoxCruiser!!) so I’m just winging it this morning.
Stayed up to watch Bronson pitch a complete game…and then walk in the winning run. (Looked like strike 3 to me, but it was late and I didn’t see more than one or two replays.) Not a good way to end a game. (The Reds have it tough these days. Their two announcers kept talking about how they’re finding ‘new and creative ways to lose’. Eesh. – Note to Bronson fans in Cincinnati, he’ll be performing a charity concert on May 27th. If you haven’t seen him perform, it’s definitely worth the $25!)
According to the Globe, Jon Lester will be starting for Pawtucket on Saturday with a 50-55 pitch count. I’m eager for him to start it up again, but I seem to be in the minority on where I want him to pitch. I’d be happy with him getting his work in down in Pawtucket after this next rehab session. At least for a while. Last thing I want is to rush him back just for the sake of having "Jon Lester" on the big team. Good luck, Jon!
Why is it when ballplayers (especially injured ones) talk about themselves they often say ‘we’? I notice it more in pitchers than position players. Timlin says it a lot. Lester does too. I’ve never understood it. Is ‘we’ the team? The player and the trainer? The player and his wife/family? Why do these things vex me?
Speaking of Timlin, the Herald says he has now thrown in the outfield two days in a row with no trouble. He’s another one I can’t wait to see back…but I can. No sense at all, right now, in rushing him back.
Tavarez at 12:35pm (if you’re holding tickets from last night, know that the gates open at 10:35am today!) and Schilling at 7:05pm. Could make for a very interesting day!
