Mike Maddux declines interview with the Red Sox

In a move that quickly shrinks the pool of managerial candidates, Texas Rangers pitching coach Mike Maddux has decided he doesn’t want to work in Boston even before the Red Sox have interviewed him.

Citing family reasons, most specifically his family all being in the  Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex area and his believing Boston is too far away from Texas, Maddux has taken his name off the list of potential managers for the Red Sox.  He’ll still be interviewing with the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday – the same day the Red Sox will interview Cleveland Indians bench coach Sandy Alomar, Jr.
