Another Day

So the sports talk all around town today will be the Celtics. I work relatively close to the Garden and pick up my ride home each night even closer, so I anticipate seeing much green surrounding me today. It’ll be exciting to be in Boston all day.

Notes in the “Good News” department:

* Daisuke had his rehab start in Allentown last night. Throwing four hitless innings and then giving up three hits and two runs in this fifth inning. (And this was after a two-hour rain delay.) He was happy with the outing, the team was happy, so I’m happy. It’s all about the happy. And the pitching.

* Big Papi had his cast removed and is now wearing a removable splint. Tito called it “…a very good sign”. Yeah, I have to agree. Still, I’m impressed with the way the team has responded since they lost Papi – although that doesn’t mean I don’t want him back ASAP.

* Joe Thurston was named the International League Batter of the Week. Thanks to his homering in three games (in a row) and driving in 12 runs. He also stole two bases and scored 8 runs. Last week he was a man gone wild! Keep it up, Joe!

I have to interrupt my ‘happy’ post for the day to say I can’t friggin’ believe the Mets fired Willie Randolph. I’ve been amazed how those in New York have been calling for his head, yet sit there and defend Joe Girardi and the job he’s done thus far. If Willie’s job was on the line, and it obviously was, why isn’t Joe’s? And shame on Omar Minaya for letting it all go on in the media the way he did. He should have been a man and dealt with Randolph much sooner than now.

Okay, no more crankies. Colon had a lousy start, Timlin had a horrible night and only two or three of the bats decided to show up. Enough of that crap. Crabcakes is pitching tonight and we’d like to see three good games in a row from him, yes?

Found this on eBay and it made me smile. So much so that I bought it. I know Mike’s career is more than likely coming to a close this year, so I’ve been going through my memorabilia that includes him to see what I have and to remember. This is like looking at someone’s yearbook picture!
