Friday in Charm City

After a relaxing and fun ride on the Acela, KellyO and I hooked up with Beth and John for our first night (this year) at Camden. We got there right as the gates open and had season tickets so we could go down to the field first thing.

That’s Kevin Millar showing off his newer tattoos to Manny Ramirez, Tim Wakefield and Jake Timlin

I love watching the guys on the field when they aren’t playing. Sure they’re working out and stretching and all that…but more interestingly, it’s the closest we get to see them being themselves instead of being “on” for the game. I like seeing that. Players acting almost like “regular” ๐Ÿ˜‰ people.

Craig Hansen…he looked very happy to be there!

At one point, Big Papi picked up Mike Timlin’s son Jake and was flipping him upside down. Jake gets to spend a lot of time on the field not only with his dad but with some of the biggest names in baseball. Someday I hope he truly understands what a special thing that is and how lucky he is to have a dad who wants to spend that kind of time with him (and have a dad who works for a team that ALLOWS him to spend that kind of time with him). Of course, I don’t have a picture of this.

I did, however, get a picture (or two) of Jake’s dad!

They seem to really need to prompt the fans to get into the game at Oriole Park. The play the “Charge!” music on what seems like a constant loop. They tell the fans (via the scoreboard) the make noise, to clap and they even put up the word “Luuuuuuuuuke” when Luke Scott is up to bat in the hopes the fans will chant his name the way we chant “Youuuuuuuk” (doesn’t work…not even close).

We decided early on we were going to cheer for our team and our boys but try not to be obnoxious. I suppose obnoxious is in the eye of the beholder. Any time they sounded the “charge” call, when everyone was supposed to yell “CHARGE!” we yelled the name of our pitchers. “Da na na NA na na – JOSH!” That went over well. ๐Ÿ™‚ Also, they like to do the CLAP CLAP CLAP chant and have the fans say “Let’s Go O’s!”. I mentioned to KellyO that this struck me funny because, in my memory, the chant to that tune is “Let’s Go METS!”. So, you guessed it, every time they started the “Let’s Go O’s” chant, we changed it to “Let’s Go METS”. It was a great time. I spent almost the entire time Mike Timlin was on the mound with my head in my hands while Kelly gave me play by play – but he (and Manny with a catch I’m so glad I didn’t see live because it would have killed me) came through. So did Mike Lowell and Jonathan Papelbon and boom…after almost five hours the Sox had won a road game and the first of the series. Woo-hoo! Let’s find a cab and go to bed!

“He throws funny” – Heard more than once this weekend. Some people make my head hurt, you know?

Javier Lopez. Yeah, he throws funny. (Excuse me while I go bang my head.)

Our closer…he didn’t suck! ๐Ÿ™‚
Video of the last out of the night, as taken by me. It was late, I was full of beer and anxiety…so it’s a little shaky!

And here’s David Aardsma…the only pitcher who was left in the bullpen:
