After Friday’s game and then after yesterday’s game, Manny Ramirez spoke to the media.  It’s been a while since we’ve seen Manny behind a podium or in front of a microphone.  For years I’ve defended Manny’s right to not talk to the press.  I never thought that his silence was a slap to the fans.  I alway figured that if the media was that intimidating and/or annoying, then more power to Manny for making the decision to ignore them.

What I didn’t realize was how much I missed hearing from him.

"I’ve got a lot of confidence in myself. He’s one of the greatest closers in the game and I’m one of the best hitters in the game. You know, he missed his spot and I got good timing on the ball, and that’s it."

And my favorite!

"It feels great. It’s been a long time since I’ve done something special like that. I haven’t been right all year. But, I guess when you don’t feel good and you still get hits, that’s when you know you are a bad man."

Yes, Manny, you’re bad all right!

And if anyone has any thoughts that Manny’s a bad teammate, how about this gem, courtesy of Rob Bradford:

Upon finishing the rare interview session, Ramirez walked away and then doubled back, yelling, “Sign Mike Lowell!

Manny Ramirez: the people’s player!
