I don’t think it means what you think it means

I don’t usually post at work, but I felt compelled to spend my lunch break writing this because the more I think about it, the more ridiculous it is.

What is it?  Gary Matthews, Jr, calling out the fans at Fenway and calling the fans at Yankee Stadium "couth".

Here’s some of his quote about Fenway and Red Sox fans:

"They’re loud, they can be obnoxious. It’s one of the few places you hear racial comments every once in a while. It’s different.

He then goes on to say:

"New York, they are passionate about their team, they really know the game, but sometimes they have a little bit more couth … a little more class than the fans in Boston."

I present you with the ‘couth’ of New York fans.  And, keep in mind, up until less than a month ago,  what takes place in the video below happened every night at Yankee Stadium.  The organization knew about it and allowed it.  Way to promote hatred, Yankees.  Or, as Gary Matthews said, very ‘couth’ of you all!

(Warning, the audio is not suitable to listen to at work, around children, or if homophobic taunting bothers you in the least.)

Man, doesn’t it make you want to visit Yankee Stadium?

How’s this for the real reason Gary Matthews, Jr., doesn’t like Fenway:  This season he is taunted with chants of "Ster-oids"  and "HGH" whenever he comes to bat or takes the field.  Yankees fans may be homophobic, but, apparently, they aren’t hypocrites.  How can they taunt Gary Matthews when they’re so busy prompting Jason Giambi for curtain calls?

Call it what it is, Gary.  Yankee Stadium and Yankees fans can be called many things.  "Couth" is certainly not one of them.

There’s a possibility that I’ll be at 3 of the 4 games at Fenway this weekend against the Angels.  I’ll definitely be at two of them.  It isn’t often I encourage folks to heckle an opposing player, but I look forward to witnessing it in person.
