My friend Emmie texted me at the game last night to gloat about our postcard shower finally kicking in for Julio. Here’s hoping that’s true. It’s taken the fans a while to ‘get’ it, but they’re really getting behind the "support" your player mentality. Slowly (sadly, see: Pena, Wily Mo, if you’re still looking for someone who gets booed) they’re kicking in. And Lugo has noticed it:
"That made me feel real good," said Lugo. "I felt a lot of love. They know I am trying my hardest. I’m not the type to struggle because of lack of effort. I give 100 percent day in and day out, and it means a lot to me that the fans see that . . . Playing here is better than I thought it would be. You can’t ask any more. A first-class city. First-class fans."
Julio Lugo has broken out of his slump. It might not mean he’s heading for a hitting streak, but I’ll take what I can get right now. It was a lot of fun to be there last night and witness Julio’s hit-less streak end, as well as seeing Daisuke pitch like we know he can (10 wins, baby!). The entire game was nine innings of pure fun!
