Literally and figuratively.
Ed is a non-roster invitee at Ft Myers this year, wearing number 77. He’s a 28 year-old from the Dominican Republic who will never be as famous or as talented as his fellow countrymen on the Sox, Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz. But today he got to be in the middle of the dogpile, getting a pounding worthy of a Big Papi walk off.
It might only be a spring training game, but to win a game with a a walk-off, grand slam…well that’s something you’ll always remember. He’s played in 30 regular season, major league games. Chances are he won’t be with the team in April. But this afternoon (and I’m sure tonight!) he gets to enjoy his 15 minutes.
